Matilda, directed by Matthew Warchus, tells the story of an extraordinary child, Matilda Wormwood (Alisha Weir), gifted with great intelligence and just as much curiosity and with a lively imagination. Too bad that her parents (Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough) are not exactly the best in the world and, unlike her who loves to read, they do nothing but spend their free time in front of the TV watching poor programs.
Matilda believes that attending Crunchem Hall can finally distance her from her chaotic family, but once she arrives at the school she realizes that this is by no means the place she imagined. The institution looks as oppressive as a prison and is run by the perfidious and corpulent Miss Trinciabue (Emma Thompson). The only glimmer of hope for the little girl is represented by a sweet teacher, Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch), a true source of inspiration for Matilda, and her classmates.
It will be precisely the abuses against her and those of her friends to give birth in little Matilda a sense of justice that will lead her to take a stand and to oppose the ruthless headmaster, determined to give Trinciabue a lesson once and for all that she will never forget. .
