The TV series Swarm, created by Atlanta's own Donald Glover with Janine Nabers, explores how idolatry can lead to bloody consequences. With a strong satirical streak, the horror/psychological thriller tells the story of Andrea 'Dre' Greene (Dominique Fishback, The Deuce), a young woman obsessed with the biggest pop star around, Ni'Jah (Nirine S. Brown, Ruthless ), whose fanbase is known as The Swarm.
In 2016, introverted Dre lives in Houston with his adopted sister Marissa 'Ris' Jackson (Chloe Bailey, Grown-ish). While Ris' interest in Ni'Jah has waned over the years, Dre is as obsessed with her as ever. When the relationship between the two sisters sours, mostly over a boyfriend, and tragedy overwhelms her, Dre begins a cross-country journey that takes her to dark and unexpected places. We see her go on a savage killing spree, determined to mortally punish anyone who dares question Ni'Jah's supremacy.
The series stars, among others, Karen Rodriguez (The Big Leap) with the role of Erica, Marissa's friend and boss; Damson Idris (Snowfall) as Khalid, Marissa's boyfriend; Rory Culkin (For Heaven's Name) as a man Dre meets in a club; Hailey's Paris Jackson (Star), a stripper with an abusive boyfriend; Billie Eilish as Eva, the leader of a female empowerment cult who takes Dre under her wing; and Loretta Greene's Heather Simms (The Kings of Napa), a detective investigating a series of murders with an apparent common thread tied to pop star Ni'Jah.
