Sylvie's Love, directed by Eugene Ashe, is set in late 1950s New York, during a hot summer, and tells the story of Sylvie (Tessa Thompson), a girl who works in her father's record shop in Harlem and dreams of one day embark on a television career. The young woman waits for her boyfriend to return from the war and spends the sultry summer days in the store. One day she starts working in the shop Robert (Nnamdi Asomugha), a talented saxophonist, looking for a part-time job to combine with evenings at the piano bar. A strong understanding is established immediately between the two and their friendship soon turns into something else, something strong and new for both.
With the end of the summer their relationship also ends, due to the life choices they find themselves making to fulfill themselves. Each one takes and pursues his own path, far from the other: Sylvie gets married and starts working as a television producer, crowning her dream; Robert finally manages to establish himself as a jazz saxophonist, fueling his fame. After several years, the two ex-lovers meet again and in that moment when their eyes meet they understand that, despite their lives have greatly changed, the feelings of each other are still there, as strong as once...
