Deadly Illusions, directed by Anna Elizabeth James, tells the story of Mary Morrison (Kristin Davis), a woman with a lovely home, a lovely husband, Tom (Dermot Mulroney), and twins. But Mary is above all an acclaimed successful writer struggling with terrible writer's block. When her publisher asks her for a new volume to be printed, Mary, in full crisis, decides to concentrate totally on writing the book. Although the woman confesses to her dear friend Elaine (Shanola Hampton), that the reason she does not want to publish another book is because when she starts writing she no longer feels like herself, she still decides to devote herself to the new project.
Unfortunately writing her takes a lot of time and that's how she finds herself forced to hire a babysitter for the twins. After a series of interviews with nannies, which did not meet the criteria required by her and her husband at all, the couple decide to hire Grace (Greer Grammer), a seemingly innocent young woman. From the moment the girl enters their lives, Mary totally indulges in the writing of the novel, coming to mix reality and fiction to the point that the writer is no longer able to distinguish real events and those she invented ...
