Poor Creatures!, a film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, tells the story of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a modern woman with a somewhat moody character and so emancipated as to have a very self-confident sexuality for her time. One day the woman, while she is trying to escape her husband, a very violent man, has an accident and dies by drowning. Thanks to an experiment by Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), a brilliant and unorthodox scientist, Bella strangely comes back to life, protected by whoever gave her life back. Under Baxter's guidance, however, the revived woman feels a deep desire to learn.
Eager to return to that worldliness that she misses so much, she Bella decides to flee together with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a lawyer known not only for her skill in her profession, but also for her debauchery . The two live an overwhelming adventure from continent to continent, while Bella, now totally free from any judgment of her time, is increasingly determined to defend all forms of inequality and emancipation.
