Happiness for beginners, the film directed by Vicky Wight, starring Helen (Ellie Kemper), a thirty-two year old recently divorced.
She has always been a prudent woman and used to her safe and predictable life. A year after her marriage ended, Helen feels lost and needs to make a change in her life. When her younger brother pushes her to sign up for a wilderness survival course, even if he's not convinced of her, she decides to accept.
The group turns out to be a dud, made up of bizarre unknown individuals with whom she must cross the Appalachian Trail, a famous hiking route on the east coast of the United States. Between blizzards, blistered feet and unpleasant encounters, Helen curses the day she agreed to participate in this trip.
But she will soon realize that it was exactly what she needed. She will learn to overcome difficulties, to find courage when she is afraid and to lose herself in order to find herself…
