The Duke, the film directed by Roger Michell, follows the story of Kempton Bunton (Jim Broadbent), an elderly taxi driver, who in 1961 decided to steal Francisco Goya's Portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. The man sent out a very bizarre ransom note saying that he would return the painting on condition that the government put more effort into supporting the elders, a subject that was very close to Kempton's heart.
Only 50 years later the truth about this story emerged: Bunton had come up with a plan made up of many lies, the only certainty was that he was a good man intent on changing the world and saving his marriage.
