World News, the film directed by Paul Greengrass, set at the end of the American Civil War, follows the story of Captain Jefferson Kidd (Tom Hanks), a man of great speaking skills, who has become a widower, who travels to Texas and tells what happens around the world. During his wanderings, the Captain will have to complete a difficult task: to bring home to his uncles Johanna Leonberger (Helena Zengel), a ten-year-old girl, kidnapped six years earlier by the native Kiowa tribe and raised as one of them. Johanna will be sent back to where the law states that she must live, against her will, away from that world unknown to her.
The journey of many miles along the wild nature to reach the final goal will be full of pitfalls but will represent an opportunity to create an indissoluble bond between the two protagonists.
