Ruby Gillman, the girl with tentacles, the film directed by Kirk DeMicco and Faryn Pearl, stars Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor), a sixteen-year-old teenager who is as sweet as she is goofy. The girl she attends Oceanside High, where she desperately tries to integrate without success; in fact, she Ruby feels more invisible every day in the eyes of others.
In addition to taking her lessons, the young Lei also tutors her math crush (Jaboukie Young-White), whom she seems to like only for fractals. Unfortunately, Ruby can't hang out with the coolest guys on the beach because her mother (Toni Collette) is overprotective and has forbidden her from going near the water. When she Ruby decides to break her mother's main rule, however, she will discover something extraordinary: she is not just a teenager. She is a direct descendant of the Kraken warrior queens and, as such, she is destined to inherit the throne of her (Jane Fonda) grandmother, the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas.
The Krakens are sworn to protect the oceans from the vain and ambitious mermaids they have been battling for eons. But there is a big and unexpected problem: the new girl arrived at Oceanside High, the beautiful and popular Chelsea (Annie Murphy), is just a mermaid. Ruby will then have to accept the truth about her identity and face great deeds in the depths of the abyss to protect those she loves most.
