The Mad Women's Ball , a film directed by Mélanie Laurent, is set in 19th century Paris, a very delicate period for women, who were immediately labeled insane and consequently interned, as soon as they showed a rebellious or "complicated" attitude. The film tells the story of Eugénie, a young woman with a very special gift: she is able to see and hear the dead. The discovery of this ability of her leads her family to lock her up in a Salpêtrière hospital. Here, under the supervision of a group of neurologists, including Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot, several women with various nervous system disorders are interned.
In the clinic, Eugénie makes friends with a nurse, Geneviève, and the meeting between the two will change their future forever. Every year in the hospital a ball is organized with the patients, a great event that also involves the Parisian elite and on the occasion of this grand soirée, the two women will put their plan into action ...
