The Last Shift, directed by Andrew Cohn, tells the story of two men, Stanley (Richard Jenkins) and Jevon (Shane Paul McGhie), who are very different in age and life experiences, the only thing they seem to have in common is the city of residence.
Stanley is elderly, has been working at Oscar's Chicken and Fish fast food for nearly 30 years and, after an endless series of night shifts, is ready to say goodbye to this job. His last working weekend, however, takes an unexpected turn, when he is asked to form his replacement, a brilliant young writer, Jevon. The boy is forced to fall back on this job, because the constant political provocations of his texts often get him into trouble and, despite being too talented to cook simple hamburgers, he has decided to make ends meet.
The two men seem so different, yet they will find themselves confronting each other about their existences. Stanley, who did not finish his studies to go to work, has seen the best years of his life pass quickly by and can now only teach the techniques of the profession. Jevon, who runs a newspaper column, believes fast food employees are exploited by their employer. During the silent hours of the night shift, the two conversing in the kitchen, between a frying and a hot plate, will find a common point, the solidarity of one towards the other.
