One Night in Miami, directed by Regina King, is a fictional tale that begins on the night of February 25, 1964, after the conclusion of the boxing match between Cassius Clay (Eli Goree) and Sonny Liston, who made the first boxer world heavyweight champion. Despite the victory, which everyone celebrates, the young Clay is forced to leave the island as soon as possible, due to the Jim Crow laws, designed to maintain racial segregation.
The boxer finds himself in the Overtown neighborhood of the city, center of the African American community of Miami, in the Hampton House Motel together with some of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown ( Aldis Hodge). Four historical icons of the civil rights movement spend an evening together, sharing thoughts and reflections until they reach a solid conviction: a cultural upheaval is needed that leads to redefine the world, also taking into consideration the black community and its rights, too long marginalized and victim of violence.
