American Elegy, the film directed by Ron Howard, follows the story of J.D. Vance (Gabriel Basso), a young ex-Marine man, who spent the first part of his life in southern Ohio, in the arid Appalachian region of unemployment.
Vance is now a law student at Yale and has left behind the context of misery and decay in which he grew up. At the moment when he is about to fulfill his biggest dream and finally get a job, due to a family problem, Vance is forced to return to his home of origin, to the family he fled from. The boy will have to face the difficult relationship with his mother Bev (Amy Adams), a fragile woman afflicted by her addictions. It will be only thanks to the figure of his grandmother Mamaw (Glenn Close), a strong and intelligent woman, who has always taken care of her grandson, that Vance will go on a personal journey that will lead him to reconcile with his family.
