Drifting Home, the film directed by Hiroyasu Ishida, tells the story of two boys, Kosuke and Natsume, friends since childhood, who during the summer holidays find themselves in the residential complex where they grew up to play and remember happy moments , before the palace is finally demolished.
While playing, however, they find themselves involved in a strange phenomenon and faint, once they regain consciousness, they realize that there is nothing else around them, if not the open sea. The building they were in is adrift and the two friends must be able to return to their world before it's too late. Thus begins a journey of farewells.
