Dear Comrades !, a film directed by Andrey Konchalovskiy, is set in Novocherkassk, USSR, in 1962 and tells the story of Lyudmila (Yuliya Vysotskaya), a devoted member of the Communist Party and siding with Stalin during the Second World War. The woman is an active militant of ideology and she detests any anti-Soviet sentiment, indeed she is convinced that with her work she will contribute to the formation of the perfect communist society.
During a workers' demonstration in a factory, Lyudmila witnesses a violent event: fire is opened on protesters by order of the government, in a vain attempt to quell mass strikes in the USSR. The shooting and the resulting bloodbath deeply mark the woman, who, during the escape of the few survivors and the wounded, loses sight of her daughter. A curfew is imposed in the city, arrests and sentences increase, while the authorities try to cover up the massacre. Lyudmila, shocked by the crack that makes its way into her solid Communist ideology, is anxiously searching for her daughter, who has now disappeared, while her life is about to change radically ...
