Minari, the film directed by Lee Isaac Chung, follows the story of a family of South Korean immigrants ready to do anything to pursue the American dream.
Jacob (Steven Yeun) is a young farmer who takes his family away from Los Angeles in the 1980s determined to start a farm in Arkansas and start a new life. His wife Monica (Yeri Han) is tired of her husband's optimism at the prospect of living in isolation in a mobile home in the middle of nowhere and with little money. Little David (Alan S. Kim) and his sister are bored and aimless.
The family's adaptation to the new life is upset by the sudden arrival of Monica's mother, the eccentric grandmother Soonja (Yuh-Jung Youn), a woman with a colorful and somewhat bizarre but incredibly strong language. The woman's ways immediately arouse David's curiosity who will establish a strong bond with his eccentric grandmother.
Meanwhile, Jacob, increasingly convinced of setting up a farm on unsuitable land, will put his family's finances and his own marriage at risk.
